BASIC DRINKING WATER CHEMISTRY
Course Number: WWP190910578 (Idaho)
Discipline: Drinking Water
Course Approval: 9/9/2019 to 9/9/2021 (Idaho)
CEU's Assigned: 0.7 (Idaho)
Course Agenda: Located here
Drinking water chemistry can get very complicated very quickly, but it is a subject that can spell success or doom for a drinking water system. For example, low alkalinity can mean significant fluctuations in pH which may impact corrosion, or it can lead to non-compliance with lead and copper, or it can increase or reduce the effectiveness of chemical treatment. This introductory course introduces the operator to the basic concepts in the following subjects:
- Water temperature and its effects on water quality
- pH
- Specific Conductance
- Turbidity
- Dissolved Oxygen
- Hardness
- Suspended and Total Dissolved Solids
- Alkalinity
- Inorganic Chemical
- Volatile Organic Compounds
- Synthetic Organic Compounds
- Radionuclides
