This class is designed to take some of the mystery out of the treatment of surface water for potable water uses. It will be followed by "Surface Water Treatment Rules" which cover more specifically the requirements of the Surface Water Treatment Rule, the Interim Enhanced Drinking Water Treatment Rule, and the Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule.
This course will introduce the operator to surface water quality, treatment required for raw water characteristics, disinfection requirements, regulatory reporting, and disinfection by-product production. While the use of surface water as a source water for potable water system is complicated, expensive, and regulatory intensive, sometimes it is the only water available for a water system. This course will allow the operator to look at the option of using surface water and its many requirements.
